A report from the TRSA, the linen rental trade association for North America, has reacted positively to the news Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, with the support of President Donald Trump is acting to overturn New York City’s congestion pricing programme. The Association welcomed the move as “a major step forward in addressing the deeply flawed, inequitable and illegal tolling program”.
Duffy has determined the programme under the Value Pricing Pilot Programme was unlawfully granted to New York State.
TRSA been vociferous in opposing the congestion-pricing scheme and has been working with the New York Trucking Association in a lawsuit to end the practice.
“This is one case where advocacy is a less direct path to achieve a goal,” said Joseph Ricci, president and CEO of TRSA. “We agree with the administration’s decision to halt this program, and we hope it leads to an immediate cessation of the collection of tolls.
“This will allow citizens and businesses of New York to ensure the economy keeps running smoothly. We hope this will put a pause on other cities across the nation who are looking at the New York model of instituting a congestion-pricing scheme of their own.”
However, TRSA is not celebrating yet and is waiting to see whether the Federal Government actually has the authority to revoke the scheme and if or when tolls will continue to be collected or if or when they will stop.
