Sunlight’s Wellingborough plant has cut its energy bills and improved ironer performance after switching to Gem steam traps.
John Wright, site engineer at the plant first fitted Gem traps in November 1 after growing dissatisfaction with mechanical traps.
Noticing immediate improvement in ironer performance, he continued to replace failing traps with Gem’s throughout 2002. By the end of last year, branch manager Graham Benwell noticed that gas bills had reduced by £200/week on average.
As a result the whole plant has now been fitted with Gem traps. Gas bills are dropping by more than expected and savings are exceeding the £10,000/year progjected. The plant now expects a payback within eight months.
Graham Benwell says that the from the start he noticed that the steam produced by the Gem traps was drier than ever.
He also said that that the laundry no longer needs to hold spares in stock or to spend time in replacing traps.
He added that the system was now more reliable and that productivity has also increased.
