The series aims to help a modern audience understand science and technology and is described as “ intelligent factual entertainment”.

Satra will feature both in the opening programme and the second programme on September 14, in a section called Testing, Testing. It opened up its laboratories to demonstrate chair testing, flame and heat tests for clothing and the processes involved in ensuring active outdoor footwear is up to standard.

A highlight of the programme will be the torching of SID, Satra’s manikin, which is used to test clothes’ ability to protect workers in potentially risky situations, such as fire fighters and airline crew, from the effects of heat and flame. Sid is made of fire-retardant fibreglass, and painted black to absorb the heat. For the test it is engulfed by a 1,000C blaze produced by 16 propane-fired burners. Over 100 sensors predict the extent and area of skin burn damage.
