The decision, which followed a ballot of the membership, was announced at the TSA’s annual general meeting in London by John Shonfeld, the incoming president of TSA. Shonfeld of Tibard Laundry Services, a founder member of the NLP, was elected last year as its first president.

NLP director Mike Kemp said the NLP was formed in 2000 to further growth and trading efficiency of its members. He was delighted with the opportunity for more independent laundries to become active in the trade association.

“Any new members joining the NLP will automatically enjoy membership of TSA – all at an affordable cost to both small and large companies,” he said.

Murray Simpson, director of the TSA, said it was an important day for the association as it increased representation of the independent operators throughout the industry and could only strengthen the laundry industry going forward.

The next meeting of the NLP is 17/18 May at the premises of Christeyns in Bradford and will cover washing technology and saving utility costs.
