Milder winters in Britain have led to an explosion in the clothes moth population warns Satra.
The research and technology organisation has seen a marked increase in the number of garments damaged by the clothes moth which is more destructive than any other insect found in the United Kingdom. Head of fabric care, Christine Richardson says, “When moth damage is not identified prior to cleaning, its presence can result in customer complaints. There is often the charge that the damage was not there when the garment was brought in, so it must be the cleaner’s fault.” The clothes moth favours dark, unventilated environments and a single moth can lay many eggs with the grubs feeding on wool, silk and sometimes even cotton fibres.
