The Professional Division of Miele has helped Springhill Hospice in Rochdale by gifting it two Little Giants after its existing machines started to fail during lockdown. Like many charities during 2020, Springhill Hospice had seen its fundraising abilities reduced and its charity stores forced to close meaning that the budget that they would normally have available to them for replacing old equipment had vanished. When CEO of the charity, Samantha Wells, reached out to Miele the company did everything they could to come to their assistance.

Springhill Hospice had been a long-term Miele customer and had a 13kg washer and dryer on site. They were looking for some new laundry equipment to provide re-washes. Working with the team at Goodman Sparks to provide the professional installation, Miele gifted them two models which had both previously been used in the Experience Centre in Abingdon as display models – a Little Giant washing machine and dryer.

Sam Bailey, regional director for Northern and Western Europe at Miele Professional said: “The washer and dryer had never actually been plumbed in, only being used to show the inner workings of the equipment. It was the perfect situation where we were looking to replace the exhibition models and Springhill Hospice was in need of a washer and dryer. Through our approved partner in Manchester, Goodman Sparks, we were able to make this donation happen and help to ensure the on-going effectiveness of the on premise laundry.”

Sam Gleeson at Goodman Sparks was only too pleased to lend assistance with the donation. “It’s fantastic to be able to support a local organisation such as Springhill with a free installation of the equipment. Samantha and her team do a fantastic job at the hospice and it’s wonderful to have played a small part in the continued success of the charity,” he said.

Springhill Hospice first opened its doors in 1989 and is a 16 bed purpose-built facility offering specialist palliative care to patients and their families from diagnosis to end-of-life. Chief executive Samantha Wells commenting on the donation said: “We are incredibly grateful to both Miele and Goodman Sparks for the donation and installation of the Miele Little Giants. They will serve us really well for many years to come and it’s great to have the support of such a generous supplier.”
