A Warwickshire-based drycleaner is setting a new trend by launching Stratford’s first “drive-in” dry-cleaning unit shop.

Fountain Cleaners’ £325 000 venture has posed an exciting challenge to its husband and wife directors, Philip and Gini McArdle, who have spent the last 18 months transforming the 7550 sq ft redundant forecourt into its new format.

“The new site works well because of its position on the main road out of town, while still being within easy walking distance of the shopping centre,” said Mr McArdle.

“Parking is an ongoing nightmare in Stratford, but we have the best of both worlds—customers with and without cars.” Inspired by similar operations in the US, Fountain’s premises feature fully computer-controlled drycleaning equipment capable of processing hundreds of garments each week.

An automated rail system is used to deliver garments to serving staff, increase efficiency and promote higher levels of customer care.
