The Laundry Studio was started by Wendy Park after she had to rethink her career following a serious car accident. In her years as a sales manager she had heard several complaints that people no longer had enough time to deal with the washing and so decided to offer washing and ironing services to families and small businesses in the Workington area.
In developing the business, Park has been helped with funding and advice from Backing Business, which is run by the West Cumbria Development Agency and supported by UK Steel Enterprise.
Park said she had been delighted by the way she had been able to expand and grow the business ina difficult market, and by the level of backing she had received from development agencies.
A spokesman for UK Steel Enterprise, involved in supporting business following the closure of the local steel industry, described The Laundry Studio as an excellent example of the type of business it wanted to encourage.
“Wendy Park spotted a gap in the market, took fulladvantage of the support available and is expandingher business steadily and creating jobs.”
