The business lobby group claims that businesses are “significantly more vulnerable to exploitation and unfair practice by energy firms” when compared to domestic energy users. It claims that while domestic suppliers are required to publish their tariffs, there is no regulatory requirement covering business suppliers.

Analysis from consumer champion Energywatch revealed that they receive 32,000 calls from businesses seeking help and advice every year.

Energywatch is due to be amalgamated along with several other consumer groups from 1 October 2008.

The BCC highlights that whilst domestic consumers are able to switch contracts every 28 days, businesses often find themselves locked into long-term contracts of anything up to five years.
