It will also launch a lorry distribution service to serve its Yorkshire distribution hub, Whiteriver Laundry, in Leeds. Whiteriver supplies over 40 hotels in Yorkshire, and distributes 100,000 pieces a week. The daily delivery and collection service will start in 2009 and will allow Afonwen to collect and process linen at its North Wales laundry, then return it to the Leeds hub.
The main production plant at Pwllheli currently processes more than 575,000 items of linen per week, while production at Afonwen’s £6m state-of-the-art laundry, which opened in the Welsh capital of Cardiff in June this year, is expected to increase over 350,000 items per week by the middle of 2009.
