Gold leaf print disappears

1 February 2002

Problem: A leather-look jacket had an attractive gold leaf print covering the entire surface, but during drycleaning, 90% of the print was washed away. Only a few areas were left to test.

Cause: Standard fastness testing indicated that the print had not been designed to withstand perc drycleaning fluid and as a result the inks rubbed off quite easily.

Responsibility: This coat is labelled for drycleaning but would not even withstand a delicate cycle. This is a manufacturing error, not cleaner incompetence.
