New fabrics from Carrington Textiles weave in sustainability
INTERNATIONAL/UK Global workwear textile manufacturer, Carrington Textiles, has announced the launch of nine new fabrics developed using sustainable fibres that include recycled polyester, BCI and organic cotton as well as a new technology that biodegrades synthetic fibres, utilised for the first time in workwear fabrics by the company. A flame retardant fabric is also being introduced to the market with a superb durability that in turn gives garments a longer life.
Covid-19 financial impact: TRSA releases Industry Performance Report
NORTH AMERICA The Textile Rental Services Association’s (TRSA) recently released Industry Performance Report enables linen, uniform and facility services operators to compare the industrywide financial impacts of Covid-19 with their own companies’ results. Using 2020 financial data collected from TRSA members on a confidential basis and compiled by the Mackay Research Group of Boulder, Colorado, the report is the only industrywide research that enables operators to compare income statements, balance sheets, and financial and employee productivity ratios.
TSA: Unprecedented cost increases could make commercial laundries unviable
UK The Textile services Association (TSA) wage survey of the commercial laundry sector has found that labour costs have increased by a staggering 14.25% in the 12 months to October 2021. More than 86% of the TSA’s membership took part on the survey, underlining the alarm that the increases are causing throughout the industry.
Portillo addresses diversity, government failings and the industry at TSA Congress
UK Michael Portillo, keynote speaker at the Textile Services Association (TSA) National Congress, addressed diversity, racism, warned the industry about merely regarding the Government as “an irritation”, deplored short term contracts, accused the Government of being “appallingly bad at spending money”, condemned its arbitrary decision-making during the pandemic and questioned whether “textile services” got the message across to the public about what the industry is really all about. Oh, and he had some interesting things to say about Margaret Thatcher and the present tenant of Number 10, Boris Johnson.
