TRSA 109th Annual Conference hits a musical note

TRSA, the North America textile rental trade body, will hold its 109th Annual Conference 13-15 September at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, Nashville, Tennesee. Keynote speakers at the event in the US’s home of music, Nashville, are RA Dickey, a former Major League Baseball player, and Charles Esten, an actor and singer/songwriter, who will kick off TRSA’s 109th Annual Conference.
TSA Roadshows launch: ‘We need to talk about laundries’

At its recent conference, the Textile Services Association (TSA) discussed its new inititative to bring the industry together. Everyone involved in the commercial laundry industry, TSA members and non-members alike, is invited to the TSA Roadshow events which will be held in regional cities. The Roadshows are intended to be an informal forum/open evening, where businesses can network and find out about the latest ideas over drinks and a buffet.
Milnor appoints Satchwell vice president of strategic accounts

Pellerin Milnor has appointed Terry Satchwell vice president of strategic accounts, effective immediately. Prior to rejoining Milnor, where he was previously vice president in Louisiana, Satchwell served as EVP engineering and technical services for PureStar Linen Group (Las Vegas) which operates more than 30 facilities across three countries and 26 US markets. In this role he was responsible for Capex planning, equipment optimisation programmes, and initiated a companywide CMMS program.

Beware spontaneous combustion
Fire still remains a major threat to any High Street cleaning business and in spite of hikes in insurance rates, warnings in the trade press and by the Guild of Cleaners & Launderers over recent years the incidence of fire has not diminished with currently around two fires a week in the UK alone. The cost of even a relatively small, contained fire should not be underestimated. If customers’ clothes are smoke damaged or burned it may result in temporary closure of the business the impact of which on customer confidence can lead to a loss of turnover that may result in permanent closure. Even if a business recovers from a fire it may well find that in future renewal rates for fire cover are unaffordable.
