In the early 1960s drycleaning moved from factory-based operations to unit shop cleaning. Since then we have lost much of the knowledge and skills acquired in factories where specialist spotters used 20 or more chemicals. Today, due to de-skilling of the industry, stain removal presents very real problems for many businesses. The new ETSA Awards recognise the most accomplished and innovative projects run by ETSA members. The first ETSA Awards took place on 12 May at the Association’s Congress in Rome last month. There were many nominees with innovative projects for the award category ‘Best Innovative Project’, and the winner was Lindström Oy, for its project ‘Workwear Flex’, representing a new digitalised approach to their market.
ETSA convenes Peer Parliaments in European Year of Youth

Elena Lai, director general of ETSA spoke of the Association’s work in two ‘Peer Parliament’ workshops which it organised as EU Climate Ambassador, 2022 being the Commission’s ‘European Year of Youth’. Panellists included Jesper Jensen of Jensen Group, Andreas Holzer of Bardusch, pictured, and Hartmut Engler of CWS.
ETSA debates the green recovery

At the ETSA Congress held recently in Rome, a panel discussion moderated by ETSA chairman Andreas Holzer started with him stating what is on everybody’s mind in the textile services industry: “Emissions to be cut by 2030. The circular economy. Apple has now decided you can repair your phones and replace the battery – great news. Renting instead of selling. Operators give it back refurbish, re–rent…re-sell.”
