Free laundry services for homeless people as ihateironing teams up with Crisis at Christmas

This holiday season, London-based laundry start up ihateironing is partnering with Crisis at Christmas, to offer free laundry services to individuals experiencing homeless people in London. Last year, Crisis at Christmas successfully supported nearly 3,500 individuals, providing warm accommodations to 450 people in London hotels, along with essential resources such as food and wellbeing support. This year, Crisis at Christmas will again host over 400 guests in their London locations, who would have otherwise been sleeping rough over Christmas.

BC SoftWear sustainability tackled, one bathrobe at a time

The hospitality industry remains focused on seeking new ways to meet sustainability targets and become ever more environmentally friendly, according to BC SoftWear. New figures released by the leading towelling supplier reveal that almost half (45%) the bathrobes selected by hotels in 2023 were from its eco-friendly SupremeSoft range, compared to just 17% in 2019. BC SoftWear’s energy saving ranges – SupremeSoft and SmartKnit – now equate to 20% of turnover; this figure was just 8% in 2019.

TSA adds resource to help industry support employee wellbeing

As part of its commitment to helping the laundry industry to create a supportive and inclusive working environment for its staff, the Textile Services Association (TSA) has launched a Wellbeing Hub for its members. The Hub provides resources to help laundry businesses support their employees with any mental health challenges they may face. This includes bite-sized video guides aimed at promoting wellbeing in the workplace.

The first edition of Texcare France lures visitors from 33 countries

The first edition of the Texcare France trade show was held from 25 to 27 November 2023 in Paris following a series of regional forums. Expectations for the event were more than fulfilled, said organiser Messe Frankfurt, with more than 60 brands taking part, 40% of them from foreign countries.

Rolls-Royce supplies self-sufficient energy system to Abel industrial laundry

Rolls-Royce has supplied an almost self-sufficient energy system with mtu battery container and automation system to the Abel laundry in Germany. The system will allow Abel to process up to 60 tons of clean laundry a day with power and heat thanks to Rolls-Royce’s mtu energy solution. The Abel family business operates in a production area of 11,000 square meters for more than 800 customers from the hotel and catering, industry and healthcare sectors. Since 2014, the Abel laundry has been operating its energy centre with an mtu combined heat and power plant, which supplies electricity and heat for the laundry with an efficiency of over 90%.

Lightening the darkness: Swedish TSA’s illuminating Autumn meeting

“Surely there is something special about an Autumn meeting?” writes Swedish TSA’s (Sveriges Tvätteriförbund) Daniel Kärrholt, “The darkness and haze at this time of year feels like an eternity if it wasn’t for a long-awaited break in the company of good friends and colleagues at Northern Europe’s biggest event – our Autumn meeting – reinforced this year by the Danish Textile Services Association (BVT). We had returned to Halland and the city of the three hearts, Halmstad. It was also particularly rough on this day, 16 November, when the clouds opened with rain mixed with snow.”

CDC to study benefits of reusable healthcare PPE after TRSA push

The TRSA, the textile services association for North America, continues to campaign strongly for reusable healthcare PPE to be the preferred option across the USA and has received feedback from a congressional letter sent to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The reply contained encouraging and not-so-encouraging content, according to a news report from the TSA.

Domus Awards scheme launches to celebrate distributor excellence

Domus Laundry has announced the launch of the Domus Awards, that aim to recognise and celebrate excellence in distribution. Domus said: “These awards are a reflection of our commitment to excellence and innovation in the world of distribution.” The Domus Awards will be held annually and the winners of the first edition will be announced in January 2024. This annual event is designed to highlight and reward national and international distributors who have excelled in their respective categories.
