Barker Laundry & Dry Cleaning raises £6,000 for three youth charities

Dorset-based Barker Laundry & Dry Cleaning has successfully raised £6,000 for 3 local charities from a series of fundraising initiatives. During January MD Matthew Barker has taken time out to present the nominated charities with a cheque for £2,000 each. The business announced in 2023 that it was fundraising for three local youth charities, to mark His Majesty King Charles III Coronation year. Various activities took place throughout the year, including an online charity auction and the business raised an impressive £6,000 to share between the three nominated charities: Elevate Foundation, Boo Charity and Life Education Wessex & Thames Valley.
Primary School in India gets its own library

The GoodTextiles Foundation has provided a library for the local primary school in Tamil Nadu, India. As a result, the children now have unrestricted access to additional literature. At the PUPS Naranikuppam primary school, adjacent to a sewing company, the GoodTextiles Foundation had already provided access to separate sanitary facilities and clean drinking water. The GoodTextiles Foundation is supporting the project with a total of €3,900.00, of which €1,425.00 comes from a donation from Dibella, which was realised with the greenhouse gas premium. The remainder was financed with donations already received.

Ecotex Healthcare acquires linen division of MMC

Ecotex Healthcare Linen Service, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, is purchasing the linen services division of Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC), Burlington, Ontario, according to a report from TRSA, the North American linen rental trade association. Mohawk Medbuy and Ecotex are working to ensure a seamless service handoff on 29 February.

SEPA consultation on new framework to streamline environmental regulation

As part of continuing efforts to modernise and improve environmental regulation, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is seeking views on the type of authorisation required for regulated activities in Scotland. SEPA has launched a consultation proposing changes to the way environmental activities are regulated, in line with a new Integrated Authorisation Framework established by the Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations 2018 (EASR 2018). The framework brings together the authorisation, procedural and enforcement arrangements for SEPA’s four main regulatory regimes: water, waste management, radioactive substances and industrial activities, formerly known as pollution, prevention and control (PPC).
Gargas is named ACI director of regulatory and international affairs

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI), the trade association for the cleaning products supply chain, has announced the appointment of Marie Gargas as senior director of regulatory and international affairs. In this role, Gargas will be responsible for managing environmental health and safety related regulatory issues and activities of concern. She will also manage the expansion of ACI’s collaboration with organisations internationally.
OBITUARY: Dennis Hargreaves

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Dennis Hargreaves, who died in November 2023 aged 86. The funeral was held on Tuesday 12 December at Kingston crematorium, followed by a celebration of Dennis’s life. Dennis was with Johnson (now Johnson Service Group) since 1965 and was founder manager of Apparelmaster. In later years he was a Board director and became industry ambassador for Johnson Service Group serving on numerous committees. He was President of the Textile Services Association in 1997, a member of the European Textile Services Association, Master of the Worshipful Company of Launderers (2001-2002) and a member of the Whitsters’ Club. Dennis is survived by his Doreen and their four children, Linda, Carol, Bernard and Anthony and many grandchildren.
Over 15 co-hosts for CINET PTC World Congress 24

“As a result of intensive communication, 15 National Associations committed themselves to be a co-host of the upcoming CINET PTC World Congress 24, 8-9 November at Texcare International in Frankfurt, Germany,” said. Cinet, which is confident the original focus on 30 National Associations will be surpassed. National Associations and organisations from the USA, China, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Japan, Canada, Germany, Africa, Greece, The Netherlands and others have committed to act as a co-hosts and participate in the event. In total more than 60 countries are expected to attend.
Richter named managing director of Kreussler Textile Care

Christoph Richter has been appointed managing director of German Kreussler Textile Care effective form 1 January. He manages the division together with Dr Helmut Eigen up to and including June. Dr Eigen will retire from the management Board on 1 July 1 but will continue to be available to the company. Richter had already worked for Kreussler Textile Care from 2008 to 2015. His time at Kreussler in business development and as head of sales forms a solid basis for his re-entry to the family business.
