Bookings are open for this year’s Textile Services Association (TSA) Autumn conference, 18-19 October at Hilton St George’s Park, Burton Upon Trent. TSA has slightly changed the format for the event. “You’ll now get almost double the content by arriving just a few hours earlier on the first day. We have also scheduled an earlier finish on the second day making it more accessible for everyone,” says the organisation.

TRSA campaign highlights ‘Astonishing behind-the-scenes industry’

TRSA, the North America association for linen, uniform and facility services providers, launched a video campaign to highlight the critical role of such commercial laundry in the delivery of essential products and services. The video series focuses on workers in the healthcare, manufacturing, food and beverage, and hospitality industries who rely on TRSA member companies to provide the safe, clean and professional uniforms, linens and other textiles that allow these industries to function.

Fordham assumes mantle of WCL Master

Traditional values were much to the fore on Monday, 3 July, as Senior Warden Simon Fordham, pictured second from left, was elected by the Court to become Master of the Worshipful Company of Launderers (WCL) for the year 2023 to 2024. Court Assistant Charles Betteridge was elected Senior Warden and Andrew Doyle, Renter Warden. Deputy Master is Sarah Lancaster, the previous Master.

On a flying visit to the UK, Sudhir Batra, contacted the Guild of Cleaners and Launderers and was entertained to dinner at Launderers Hall in London by Guild Chaiman of Council, Ken Cupitt. Batra is the managing partner of Mercury Cleaners, Dyers, and Darners, which operates from five sites in India, and is also vice president of the India textile services association, DLAI. Christeyns and Fluid Chemicals NZ announce strategic partnership in New Zealand

Belgium-based multinational Christeyns, which produces chemicals solutions for professional laundries has entered into a strategic partnership with its sector colleague Fluid Chemicals NZ in New Zealand. This joint venture has been operational since 1 April. Both family-owned businesses have a long history in hygiene. Located in Ghent, Christeyns started in 1946 as a small soap factory. Since then, the company has grown into a major player on the global detergents market offering innovative hygiene solutions for professional textile care to food processing and retail, professional cleaning, life sciences and medical care. With this partnership, Christeyns wants to further expand its geographic influence in the Asia-Pacific region, with a production site in Auckland, New Zealand.

Changes at the top of ABS as founder Anne de Boer retires

ABS Laundry Business Solutions (ABS), a worldwide leading provider of laundry ERP software services and solutions, recently announced changes to its senior leadership team. Gerard van de Donk, pictured, the current CCO, has been appointed as the new CEO. Gerard will succeed Anne de Boer, founder of ABS, who announced his intention to retire from ABS by the end of 2023.

High energy costs scupper launderettes

There has been quite a bit about launderettes in the national media lately. According to Bruce Herring of the National Association of the Launderette Industry (NALI): “The ball started rolling with a full-page article in The Mail on Sunday, 11 June, with John Abiona and Stephen Bailey sharing the writing credits. The theme generally touched on the much-reduced state of the launderette – around 2,000 units now – since its inception in the late 1940s and its heyday in the 1960s/70s – estimated to be around 14,000 – before everybody bought domestic washing machines.
