Problem:The metallic trim round the neck of a dress appeared shrunken and wrinkled following drycleaning.

Cause:When making an item with laminated trim involving different layers, it is essential that the shrinkage potential of each layer in in drycleaning is matched so that after cleaning everything lies flat. Responsibility:The blame here lies with the garment maker for poor specification of the original components and/or inadequate material quality control.

Rectification:It is sometimes possible to correct this fault by re-pressing under tension either using free steam or sometimes by dampening down with a water spray before pressing. Tension should be maintained on each lay whilst vacuum is applied at the end of the lay to cool, dry and set the assembly in a flat condition. That did not work in this case.
