Communication is central to business, and increasingly that core function is becoming electronic- and internet-based. Companies large and small consider at least a basic website essential. Internet ordering offers the advantages of speed, convenience and sometimes the ability to check on progress.
The internet is used to control production and to allow machines to communicate with each other and with a central data system. Machine faults can be diagnosed online.
Publishing too has been influenced by this electronic revolution. Websites are used to extend the printed version and in many cases journals are available on line.
LCNi has long had a website, and redesigned it to extend its usefulness two years ago. In addition to news, journal highlights, and other web sections, it has published a readers’ survey and run industry-related competitions.
Now the popular What Went Wrong section, written by Richard Neale, has been turned into an electronic guide, using archive material. This LCNi e-publication, which is sponsored by Kreussler, goes live on www.laundryandcleaningnews.com this month. It will be there as a constantly available reference, so drycleaners who want to to check up on a particular type of problem can simply do this while working on their computer.
The digital What Went Wrong guide has been designed as an e-publication from scratch. Print size and type and layout have been chosen so pages can be read without enlargement.
The magazine format makes it easy for readers to browse. Those wanting to refer to a particular section can locate it by clicking on the index at the back.
We hope you like this first special e-publication, so do go to the website and click on the miniature front cover to gain access to this digital guide.
Do email me at the address below and let me know your views on the guide.
This is the first LCNi e-publication, but we will be looking at others in the future.
Finally, let me assure you that this will complement the journal column and What Went Wrong will continue to appear in print form in the monthly journal.
I look forward to hearing your views on this first LCNi e-publication.
