The redesigned press has been installed at the Record Waserije in Mechelen Belgium.
Before this, the laundry had been using a 45Kg Transferon 16 compartment tunnel washer with a cycle time of around 130 seconds and had been processing towels and bed sheets in loads of 40 – 45kg with a production rate of around 1,107kg/hour.
The towels were taking 20 minutes to dry in the gas tumblers and the lengthy drying period was forcing the laundry to underload the washer to keep production at a steady rate and avoid bottlenecks in the line.
Once the Transferon P550-1 had been installed, the laundry could process the towels on a dedicated line with a tunnel washer and the new press and move the bed sheets to a second tunnel washer line equipped with a standard press and a shaker.
The towel processing line can now handle loads of 45 – 50kg on a 120 second cycle with a 70 second press cycle and tumble drying time was reduced to 17minutes.
So the installation has throughput in the tunnel washer by 20% or more and this means energy savings of 25% with a corresponding cut in operational costs.
