Bradford-based chemicals manufacturer Christeyns joined local and regional manufacturers for the seventh Bradford Manufacturing Weeks event aimed at introducing students to the world of manufacturing.Run by West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and SkillsHouse, Bradford Manufacturing Weeks brings manufacturers, schools and young people together through tours, work experience, seminars, exhibitions and learning events held at manufacturer premises and key locations across the district. Launched in 2018 the event showcases the different opportunities that a manufacturing career can bring.
The 2024 programme ran from 7to18October and during this time Christeyns welcomed local school and college groups on facility tours at its Bradford headquarters.
Six students from Coleman Training Development, aged 18-25, enjoyed a site tour and a Q&A session with employees in different roles across the business, including management and apprentices. A group from Hanson Secondary School took part in a‘The Apprentice’ task where the students had the opportunity to design and pitch a hygiene product.
“It was inspiring to see the student’s enthusiasm and talent first hand, and we are proud to be part of an initiative that champions opportunities for young people,” said Fauzia Raza, process improvement manager at Christeyns UK.
Members of the Christeyns team were also involved in manufacturing-focused panels answering questions from students and providing more insight into a career in manufacturing.
Since its inauguration, the initiative has supported more than 15,000 young people aged 14-18 across the Bradford region to gain access to the manufacturing sector. The event is endorsed by Bradford Council, Bradford Economic Partnership, and the University of Bradford.
