Oxwash has taken the major decision to indefinitely pause its direct-to-consumer service. The decision, which came into force on 28 April, was made so the company can focus operations and technology on reducing the impact of commercial laundry services, after witnessing the dramatic impact its service has had on businesses looking to make their operations more sustainable.

Oxwash was founded in 2018 to reduce the environmental footprint of laundry from domestic customers, cutting back on water, fuel and harmful chemicals uses in Oxford by employing the most sustainable laundering options available and extending the strategy to pedal-powered delivery and pick-up, moving on to electric vehicles as it grew bigger. Over the past five years it has grown its business, serving thousands of customers and businesses across various industries and locations.

The company said it has seen first-hand a significantly greater environmental impact when serving commercial clients compared to domestic customers, especially those businesses looking to make their operations more sustainable. Specifically, for each item of laundry, the carbon emissions, water consumption, and energy usage associated with commercial clients can be more than six times higher.

With the impending launch of its new large-scale facility, ‘Big Blue’, Oxwash, is supporting healthcare, hospitality, fashion, leisure, and more industries by continuing to build and optimise a service that fits with their requirements. While Oxwash is incredibly grateful for its individual customers, the high demand for services from commercial industries has prompted the decision to pause direct-to-consumer services.

For established domestic customers in London, Oxwash has partnered with Laundryheap to provide customers with an alternative solution. Both businesses share values of sustainability, quality, and convenience through their 24-hour delivery services. "We're thrilled to partner with Oxwash and offer their consumer customers a laundry service that matches their values," said Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap. “Our partnership with Oxwash is a testament to our shared commitment to sustainability and innovation."

Oxwash remains committed to its mission of reducing the environmental impact of laundry on the planet. The company will continue to innovate and develop its commercial laundry service to better serve its growing customer base in various industries.
