Girbau, a leading provider of integrated professional laundry services, together with The University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic – UCC), and Fundación Scientia have promoted the second edition of the First Tech Challenge tournament, the biggest STEAM programme in the world for young people aged 16 to 18.

The competition took place for the first time in Vic, Barcelona on Friday 29 February. The challenge posed in this edition was called Skystone and focuses on seeking out solutions to ensure that cities are a place where everyone can live together. 

The El Sucre fairgrounds in Vic hosted the international competition featuring 17 teams of young people from Spain, Germany, USA, France, Liberia, the Netherlands and Romania. The tournament finished with an awards ceremony, when it was also revealed which team will participate in the world final in Detroit, USA in April.

The First Tech Challenge attracts over 60,000 participants, in more than 5,000 teams from 40 countries. For this tournament, the teams have designed, created and programmed autonomous remote-controlled robots, which will have to take part in a series of missions.
