On Thursday, July 14, the New York City Council passed the Clean Act (intro. 697). The legislation requires licensing for industrial laundries and establishes cleanliness standards when processing linens that restaurants, hospitals, hotels, and other businesses use.
“We are proud of our collaboration with Councilman Ritchie Torres, the bill’s sponsor, throughout this legislative process,” said TRSA vice chairman David Potack, of Unitex Textile Rental Services, Mount Vernon, New York. “TRSA members demonstrate every day an excellent record of cleanliness and safety to our employees, customers and the general public. We understand the public’s desire for validation of our industry’s processes.”
TRSA met with New York officials since the bill’s proposal in early 2015 to familiarise them with industry best practices. “We demonstrated TRSA members’ capabilities to satisfy the public’s needs for greater cleanliness and better service. As the leading companies in the industry, we have a long history of improving standards and practices,” Potack said.
“Our partnerships with federal, state and local governments are strong because our members are recognized for documented improvements in sustainability, workplace safety, hygiene and other performance measures.”
