The third generation member to be in charge of the family business, Stefan Mecheels took over from his father Jürgen Mecheels, as head of the international research and service centre in 1995. He started working for the institute in 1988 and headed the clothing technology research department.
He had previously trained as a banker and studied mechanical engineering and business management at the universities of Stuttgart and Bamberg.
