Problem: These covers were washed in accordance with the care label, but afterwards a darker band could be seen along one edge and there were small darker patches near the corners.

Cause: The covers contained appreciable amounts of loose dye. During the wash, the dye moved with the water, but not all of it was rinsed out. The covers were then line dried and the water and loose dye drained into the lower part producing the dark band along the edge.

The parts near the corner where there were several thicknesses, dried last and most of the dye was deposited here, leaving the ugly dark areas.

Responsibility: The blame here lies with the manufacturer of the covers and ultimately with the original cloth dyer. It is possible to produce a much better colourfastness than this, even with a deep rich shade.

Rectification: You might get a uniform, though slightly paler shade with a thorough rewash with a good spin at the end of the last rinse. This is always worth a try.
