All essential machinery will be transferred gradually over the coming year.

Speaking in early January, managing director Moira O’Brien confirmed weaving operations at the company’s Britannia Mill in Blackburn would finish by the end of 2005, while dyeing and bleaching at Woodnook Mill in Accrington is expected to stop in April.

O’Brien would not reveal the planned Egyptian site, nor would she reveal the expected savings in costs by switching the manufacturing base. However, she said that the move represented a “lifeline and would allow the company to continue to innovate and develop in future.”
