Edro Corp has introduced a washer-extractor that uses a patented technology for “processing most loads in cold water, with less chemistry and without sacrificing quality”. It combines a built-in, on-board activated oxygen generator with a high-speed machine.

In operation, a stream of ionised gas molecules, which the company calls “Active Air Plasma”, is produced by exposing atmospheric air to a set of lamps emitting both ultraviolet and infrared radiation.

The resulting stream of air is introduced into the moisture of the incoming air. Edro says this creates a safe, disinfected and sanitised air stream, which is injected into the wash wheel. The sanitised air has components of hydroxyl ions, singlet oxygen, nitroxyl ions and peroxyl ions (hydrogen peroxide).

Other benefits are said to include:

• reduced drying times

• less water consumed

• increased linen life.
