“Changing fashions” will be the theme of this year’s International Drycleaners’ Congress convention.
IDC president Simon Murray explained to LCN that the theme for the convention, which will be in London, was chosen in order to reflect not only what people wear, but how they organise their time.
A vital component of the event, explained Mr Murray, who is chairman of South East-based Columbine Cleaners, will be exchanging ideas with fellow drycleaners from around the world. “A lot can be learnt from what other countries are doing,” he said.
The convention’s organising committee is hoping shortly to confirm top-level speakers from Russia, France, Germany, the USA and the Far East. The following speakers have already confirmed their interest:
• Kaspar Hasenclever of Kreussler Chemicals
• Marty Brucato, an American, living and running a drycleaning business in Paris
• John Barber who heads up the Safeway drycleaning and photographic business
Simon Murray said he also hoped the event would prompt more UK drycleaners to join the IDC: “For around £70 a year, individuals get the IDC’s publication and access to information about what’s going on – it’s like an international club.”
The IDC convention moves to a different country each year, returning to the UK every six or seven years. Last year’s event was in Arizona, USA and next year it moves to Japan.
• LCN will carry further details in the run up to the IDC convention, which takes place at the Langham Hilton in London from August 27 to 31.
