Seek out the clues

The ability to deliver a prompt and clear explanation at the counter to explain common faults is an essential part of the cleaner’s craft. The cleaner must recognise with confidence the key symptoms that determine whether or not the cleaner is at fault.

Drycleaning may remove the vital evidence need to prove responsibility and the cleaner must search very carefully for vital clues. A common example is poor washing-off of dyes after the production of deep dyed trim fabric for use on a pale garment. The cleaner will be accused of cleaning the garment with a dark load and allowing colour contamination from another item. It is always worth looking for tell-tale symptoms of mark-of pattern and gradation of colour adjacent to the culprit trim panel.
