London’s Guildhall provided the spectacular backdrop to The Worshipful Company of Launderers’ Gala Banquet to celebrate the Livery Company’s 50th anniversary. The event attended by more than 600 Liverymen and their guests

The Master of the Worshipful Company of Launderers, Murray Simpson, welcomed Liverymen and guests to London's Guildhall on Tuesday 23 February 2010 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the livery company's inaugural banquet.

The ceremony of Beating Retreat performed by Her Majesty’s Coldstream Guards provided this very special evening with a spectacular start. Over 600 people associated with the laundry industry attended, including Liveryman Chris Shepherd of LCN.

Guests of honour included The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor Locum Tenens, Alderman the Lord Levene of Portsoken KBE, accompanied by Lady Levene, Sheriff Peter Cook with Mrs Julie Cook and Masters of 24 Livery Companies.

After the Master took the salute, a champagne reception was held in the Old Library followed by a five course gala dinner in the historic Medieval Great Hall.

The quality of the food and wine was exquisite, served by the highly efficient Party Ingredients. The Brass Quintet of the Royal Artillery played during dinner.

Several presentations were made during the evening.

The Company’s silver medal was presented to Corporal James Flammery, Royal Logistic Corps TA.

Senior Past Master Neville Wells and Past Master Arthur Kennedy OBE, two of the company’s founder members, were present to mark this special occasion and received anniversary commemorative scrolls.

Both men had attended the inaugural meeting of the Worshipful Company of Launderers half a century ago.

Senior Warden Martyn Lewis and Lord Levene of Portsoken KBE, both gave excellent speeches.

The Master, Murray Simpson, closed with a vote of thanks to everyone who attended and to those who had organised this very memorable event in the history of the Company.
